A creative workshop for Veterans Monday, 13th 10:30am - 11:30 South Blvd Library
Participants will learn the benefits of journaling while creating and making their own pocket sized journals.
The workshop facilitator, Jim Dukes, former bomb technician, has been teaching healing art workshops to Veterans, active duty military and caregivers for seven years. Art and photography became his healing outlet after his fifth TBI in 2013 left him disabled and needing a way to cope with PTSD and anxiety. Jim’s workshops with active duty Drill Sergeants are legendary, leading him to deliver a TedX Talk on the subject of healing art. He is committed to providing creative outlets to the military community in an effort to facilitate helpful communication. Sharon is the Lead Educator at PRN and has been there for over 16 years, almost since its inception 18 years ago. She was about 15 years sober when she met founder, Cherene Caraco. Cherene told her that recovery from mental illness was possible. Having multiple diagnoses, this had a profound impact on Sharon and changed her life. It gave her hope that she could feel differently than she had her entire life. Sharon holds an MSW and taught for 20 years before getting involved with PRN. Sharon also facilitates classes for clients for others in the rehabilitation community. She has used her teaching skills in the prison system but says that she didn’t know what her true calling was until Cherene hired her to live her purpose as a teacher and facilitator for PRN. Sharon doesn't want anyone else to have to go through and feel the things she went through in the past. She believes if they can know the truth about recovery, it eases their pain. She could talk about recovery all day and be just as enthusiastic about it at the end as she was at the beginning.

At Mental Health Reimagined (MHR), our mission is to change how we think, treat, and talk about mental illness.
We are dedicated to reimagining mental health care and providing alternatives to the patriarchal systems that leave individuals disempowered and stuck in shame and stigma that prohibits personal growth. Through outreach, advocacy, education, empowerment, and innovation, we encourage individuals to rewrite their stories and reclaim their power over their mental & emotional health.
As the founder of MHR, I bring a lifetime (several lifetimes) of personal experience with mental illness to our mission. Having navigated the challenges of an undiagnosed condition for over four decades, I understand the pain of stigma and the struggle for access to care. Through my journey to remission and self-discovery, I have witnessed the transformative power of Reiki, courage and storytelling. Now, I am dedicated to sharing that power with others, guiding them on their own paths toward healing and empowerment.
Together, we can rewrite the narrative of mental health, one story at a time. Join us in our mission to reimagine mental health and create a world full of superheroes.
